That was a fascinating peek at the inner workings of the publishing industy. What I don’t understand, however, is this: in this process, who gets to choose the fonts?
The author’s parents traditionally choose the fonts and the general look and feel of the book. The mother usually chooses the cover art, often by commissioning something nice from a family friend. The father, or in rare cases, the grandfather, chooses the body text font and the heading font from a selection of Compugraphic 7700 font-strip negatives stored at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
